Fly me to the moon

Standard

Fly me to the moon

Let me play among the star

Let me see what spring is like

On a-Jupiter and Mars

In other words, hold my hand

In other words, baby, kiss me

Fill my heart with song

And let me sing for ever more

You are all I long for

All I worship and adore

In other words, please be true

In other words, I love you

Fill my heart with song

Let me sing for ever more

You are all I long for

All I worship and adore

In other words, please be true

In other words, in other words

I love you

Mari olahraga

Standard

Apa aja coba?

What’s your bloodtype?

Standard

I was just skimming through Facebook updates of my friends when I found something that reminds me of one of those Japanese things that I’ve always wanted to know. It’s judging a person based on his/her bloodtype.

My father always said that this thing is especially true for me and my sisters (we share the same bloodtype). When he was upset or almost gave up on us, he would bring up this bloodtype personality thing and said there’s nothing he could to change us, it’s in our blood, he just had to live with that. As a product of seven years of Japanese education, he seemed to believe that very much. I think he secretly wished that none of his grandchildren would have our -me and my sisters’- bloodtype.. -?

So, when I read the thread, I had a quick flashback of my father and the way he said the “it’s in your blood” thing, which btw, I miss very much. And then, to fulfill the need for some distraction during my productive paper-writing time today, I feel the urge to find out whether what my father said was true. That my personality happens to be written in my blood.

And what do you know, parents always know their children. My father was right, it’s in my blood!

Defeating self sabotage

Standard

I have been sitting in my desk for almost 6 hours. Of that six hours, I can tell you, I was very diligent in.. checking this.. that.. Browsing here.. there.. Doing A, B, C to X, Y, Z.. Working on my research? I did that! For roughly 45 minutes..

And I have one journal paper to write, one to revise, a seminar on Monday, and five-chapters-100-pages of dissertation with only 8 pages written, on my to-do-list.

So, why is it so hard to work?

“Defeating self-sabotage: getting your PhD finished” by Kearns & Gardiner is a must read for you, who happens to be like me: motivated in everything but PhD-related works. Or in their word: ABD syndrome -Anything But Dissertation- ..O’ow…

“Sunlight and strawberry bubble gum” – Matt Nathanson

Standard

Because,

‘A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person’ (Mignon McLaughlin)

You’re so delicious. You’re so soft, sweet on the tip of my tongue. You taste like sunlight and strawberry bubble gum. You bite my lip, you spike my blood. You make my heart beat faster.

Own me, you own me, rattle my bones. You turn me over and over. Till I can’t control myself. Make me a liar, yeah, one big disaster uh. You make my heart beat faster. Uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh

It’s the way you swell, slow. Pushing right out of your seams. It’s the way you smile, baby. When you’ve got me on my knees. Your all night noise, your sirens howl. You make my heart beat faster.

Own me, you own me, rattle my bones. You turn me over and over. Till I can’t control myself. Make me a liar, yeah, one big disaster uh. You make my heart beat, faster.  Uh uh uh uh uh uh

Cause I jump, I crash, I crawl. I beg, I steal, I fall, oooo. Yeah you own me. You make my heart beat faster, faster. Faster, faster. I can’t get enough. This has come. I guess world is over to me.

Own me, you own me, rattle my bones. You turn me over and over. Till I can’t control myself. Make me a liar, yeah, one big disaster uh. You make my heart beat faster.

You make my heart beat faster.

The PhD Experience: Sure?

Standard

Good Morning!

Today (25 May) I’m in a good mood for writing and studying. You know why? Because a few days ago, I received my order: a Phd Book Set from iThinkwell. A set of book containing (what i think are) important things you should know before even thinking of getting a PhD. Well, it’s a little late for me to read it know, but hey, there’s never too late to do something good. Right?

There are five books in the set: Turbocharge Your Writing, The Seven Secrets of Highly Successful Research Students, The PhD Experience, Time for Research and Defeating Self-Sabotage. They’re not thick, each only has a few pages, so you can really read it in your spare time. But I didn’t. I want to take my time in reading, because they’re exactly what I need at the moment. A special mood booster, tailored to the needs of PhD students. I decided that first book I’d read is: “the PhD Experience, what they didn’t tell you at induction“. So last night before sleeping, I took the book to bed, along with a pencil and sticky notes to write what I would learn.

The book includes case summaries of 10 students in dealing with their PhD experience. Each summary starts with a graph, that shows how the students rate their feelings toward their PhD from time to time. Then the story moves on to describe that feelings, judgment, problems, and so on that the students encounter during their studies. While reading, I jotted down a few things that I can relate with, as I also experience them. Here’s what I came up with…
