What’s your bloodtype?

I was just skimming through Facebook updates of my friends when I found something that reminds me of one of those Japanese things that I’ve always wanted to know. It’s judging a person based on his/her bloodtype.

My father always said that this thing is especially true for me and my sisters (we share the same bloodtype). When he was upset or almost gave up on us, he would bring up this bloodtype personality thing and said there’s nothing he could to change us, it’s in our blood, he just had to live with that. As a product of seven years of Japanese education, he seemed to believe that very much. I think he secretly wished that none of his grandchildren would have our -me and my sisters’- bloodtype.. -?

So, when I read the thread, I had a quick flashback of my father and the way he said the “it’s in your blood” thing, which btw, I miss very much. And then, to fulfill the need for some distraction during my productive paper-writing time today, I feel the urge to find out whether what my father said was true. That my personality happens to be written in my blood.

And what do you know, parents always know their children. My father was right, it’s in my blood!

Tell me what you think when you read this:

“People with blood type AB are hard to categorize. They can have characteristics on both ends of the spectrum at the same time. For instance, they are both shy and outgoing. They easily switch from one opposite to another. AB people are trustworthy and responsible, but can’t handle it when too much is asked of them. They don’t mind doing favors or helping out, as long as its on their own conditions. People with this blood type are interested in art and metaphysics. ……. Type AB’s, as always, are half one thing and half another, and get to eat vegan food or dairy-and-everything-else—IF it suits them. ……

Another version:

“Type-AB people are an unpredictable, distant lot, but tend to use their heads over their hearts. They are good with money. Type AB’s are the split personalities of the blood groups. They are considerate of other people’s feelings and deal with them with care and caution. On the other hand, though, they are strict with themselves and those close to them. They, therefore, seem to have two personalities: one for those “outside,” and another for people on the “inside.” They often become sentimental, and they tend to think too deeply about things. AB Types have a lot of friends, but they need time to be alone and think things through, as well. They can be both outgoing and shy, confident and timid. While responsible, too much responsibility will cause a problem. They are trustworthy and like to help others. Type AB personalities can be sensitive, considerate, careful, and efficient. They can also be strict, moody, easily offended, critical, and standoffish.”

Now, that does sound like me, right?!

Maybe not very reliable and scientific, but I don’t want to know what science thinks. It’s enough to know what my Japanese friends -dan para babeh itu- may think if they know my bloodtype. Now I can understand the look in their eyes when I said I’m an AB:

AB is considered the worst blood type. In predictability-loving Japan, they’re loose cannons. They also like to set their own conditions and reserve the right to drop out when things don’t meet their expectations. They’re known to be sensitive and considerate—at times—but it just isn’t enough to balance out the flaws in this blood type. For a while, some companies tried dividing their employees into work groups based on blood type, and no one wanted to work with the AB. Anime villains are likely to be type AB.”

So, it’s a scared look! ))
